Nick Walsh – Candidate for Peachland Council
I am running for Peachland Council to bring clear thinking, transparency, and practical problem-solving to local government. Peachland is a strong community with a proud history, and it deserves decisions that are thoughtful, well-informed, and made in the open.
I bring a long career in public-sector policy and analysis, along with seasoned research and analytical skills grounded in an evidence-based approach to decision-making. My work has consistently focused on understanding complex issues, examining underlying assumptions, and presenting information in a clear and accessible way so both decision-makers and the public can understand what is at stake.
Have you ever wondered why good, smart people sometimes end up supporting ideas or decisions that don't quite add up? It's a question that Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a courageous pastor and thinker during tough times in history, explored deeply. He suggested that what he called "stupidity" isn't about being unintelligent—far from it. It's more like a trap where we stop thinking for ourselves, often because of outside pressures like groupthink, catchy slogans, or authority figures who make complex issues seem simple.
Think of it this way: In our busy lives, we're bombarded with information—ads, news, social media—that can play on our emotions or desire to fit in. It's like subtle "psyops" (psychological operations) that nudge us toward quick answers instead of careful consideration. This isn't about blaming anyone; it happens to all of us at some point. Bonhoeffer saw how this led societies astray, not through evil intent, but through ordinary folks surrendering their independent judgment.
But here's the good news: We can choose differently. By pausing to question, seek facts, and discuss openly, we reclaim our power. That's what draws me to public service. If elected to Peachland Council, I'll be a councillor of the people and for the people—committed to transparency and inclusion. I'll bring "repensity-level thinking"—a clear, evidence-based approach—to our decisions, and develop practical frameworks that put citizens at the center. Imagine town halls where your voice shapes policies, or online tools that make governance accessible and accountable. Together, we can build a Peachland where independent thinking thrives, and no one feels sidelined.

Locally, this approach was reflected in my independent research into the Peachland Fire Hall project. I reviewed publicly available documents, timelines, and decision processes to help residents better understand the scope, risks, and governance considerations involved.

That work was not about advocacy or opposition. It was about clarity—ensuring that important municipal decisions can be evaluated on the basis of facts rather than confusion or incomplete information.
As a councillor, I would apply the same disciplined approach to all major issues before council: careful review of information, transparency in process, and respect for the community’s right to understand how and why decisions are made. Peachland benefits when policy is shaped by evidence, open discussion, and long-term thinking rather than haste or politics.
I am offering myself for council to serve the community with integrity, diligence, and a steady hand—focused on responsible governance and the long-term well-being of Peachland.
Sincerely,
Nick M. Walsh
